The Tri-Heavy Mk. 5 Sub-Orbit Launcher

Recommended Posts

So this ship began as a Quad fuselage design as seen here: http://imgur.com/a/KCy7P

I decided to have it launch from the top of the fuselage instead so it could support more weight.

After numerous redesigns and many, many more iterations, I give you the completed Tri-Heavy Mk. 5! http://imgur.com/a/X9mVi

Mods Required: Kosmos, Mechjeb, Novapunch, and Spidertech (I think)

Instructions to launch:

1. Be prepared for a lot of lag on launch, my rig gets about 10 fps and its a pretty good rig.

2. Start engines and roll down the runway, if the craft starts rolling before you start them don\'t worry, this happens often.

3. Turn on precision control on and lift off carefully at the end of the runway.

4. Start a climb at 30 degrees, turn on the mechjeb 'NO ROT' setting to maintain this.

5. Turn on the RCS at around 8,000 feet.

6. Keep climbing to about 12,000 - 15,000 feet. At this point the craft will most likely want to start pitching backwards, but not to worry, the RCS should help prevent this.

7. Just before the launch craft starts pitching backwards uncontrollably, separate the space craft and ignite the main engine, wait about 3 seconds to start the boosters, they sometimes bug if you start them right away. The boosters attached to the launch plane should prevent them from hitting each other, but will occasionally (very rare, I promise!) explode, hopefully not damaging the payload.

8. Begin your ascent in the payload, decoupling the boosters when they run out of fuel.

9. Use mechjeb to assist in establishing an orbit, or do it manually. Your choice!

10. Once in orbit, you should have enough fuel (at least in the default payload) to go anywhere you like and establish any orbit you like!

11. Right click and deploy the solar panels and radiators. Congrats, you have successfully launched the Tri-Heavy Mk. 5!

That is an interesting plane design. Never seen 2 fuselages done well, even the Double Mustang, but FOUR. Wow. Why does this monstrosity not collapse?
