Corrupted Saves

Hello.  I have been searching for either a tutorial or something on how to search for corruptions to save files and correct issues. 

I run a heavily modded career game and for sake of speed and more importantly, my own ability to do it and learn from it, I want to be able to locate problems within corrupted saves in an attempt to fix them. 

My personal experience with the game would greatly increase if I were able to extend the life-span of my saves instead of being forced to start over.

I could have sworn that there was once a sticky on this, but maybe it has been moved or was the victim of the forum makeover (or maybe I'm just going blind.)
