Offering Explore Contracts Near Transfer Window

Recommended Posts

While I was playing a Hard Career, I had a Explore Jool contract offered to me days away from the optimum transfer window. Very convenient when you play with life support and find yourself squeezing missions in-between station management. But I thought this might actually be quite helpful if done intentionally in the right circumstances. The concept simply is that newer players play less attention to/are less knowledgable of transfer windows. So by having the contract to explore a particular body offered closer to the transfer window based on difficulty setting, you can give less experienced players a better chance at going interplanetary efficiently. Sure, the contract might now not be offered as quickly in some cases, but the wait would be well made up for in economy and efficiency.

Sounds like a good idea to me. And it does not need to be exact filter, just making those contracts a bit more likely to spawn would be enough. You know, not dumbing contracts down, just discreetely pushing them to be more relevant.

Or they could specify the most optimal and least dV transfer date.

Maybe even tie that to an upgrade of the tracking station? Either way, some reference to the date or time would be helpful for sure.

Yea the idea not being, "go here now", but rather, "maybe leave soon?"

While we're at it, have part of the contract be to perform a burn from Kerbin orbit to <target> SoI within a few days either side of that? :)

I would prefer the dating approach to a 'near the time' option, since I use Kerbal Construction Time and cannot simply respond with a massive ship within a few days. Need to be told a few months in advance ^^;
