I accidentally deleted the files for the plane gearbays!

Recommended Posts

A few days ago I was trying to install a mod but I failed, and tried to remove the mods files, but since I'm new to file exploring I accidentally deleted the files for the gearbays! Can someone please tell me how to reinstall them??

Sorry for your mishap, that's really frustrating, I'm sure.

My suggestion would be to simply re-download a clean install from wherever you bought KSP. It's much more straight forward than trying to replace a handful of files (plus you won't have to be worried that you missed one or put something in the wrong spot).

If you have KSP through steam, just right click on the icon in your library and select "verify game cache." It'll automatically find and fix/replace any broken/missing files.

If you bought and downloaded from the KSP store or GOG, then it's a couple extra steps, but not too bad. Just re-download from the same place you first got it, unzip the file to a new location. Then open your old KSP folder and copy your save files over to the new one. If you have any mods, you'll have to reinstall those as well.

I thought the folder was from a mod.

For future reference, the Squad folder inside the Game Data folder is for stock parts only. No mod will put things in there, and you should pretty much leave it alone.

Oh then I guess I made a mistake other than deleting files. A week ago I downloaded a small mod and dropped its parts into the default parts folder.

Ah, yes that's potentially a problem. AFAIK, that won't break the game or anything, but it's generally not a good idea to mix mod parts in with the stock files.

Pretty much any and every mod you want to install goes in the Game Data folder, next to and not inside of the Squad folder.
