But that's all semantics, lawyer speak. They want to crawl back into a perpetual-beta mode of development. That too is fine. Squad long ago abandoned traditional development labels. But to cut out all of us who have been with them for years is unfair. It isn't illegal or a violation of a contract, it;s just a horrible thing to do to customers. You can still be a jerk without violating a contract. Squad has made that choice. And to quote the OP, we are very much second class citizens. There are the beta testers (steam), the media team, and us few for whom steam is not an option. We don't have the privileges of the others and so are a second, if not a third, class. You've taken the words right out of my brain! Wish I could have stated this to begin with!

I'm a little confused here. Forgive me if I'm getting this wrong, but: What you're upset about is that they don't have to provide you with 1.1, even though they are going to anyway when it's ready? Or did they say we have to buy the game again in the future? Forgive me if I missed this. And because you can't test the new material before it's actually ready, that makes you a lesser "citizen"? This will probably make me unpopular, but sounds like a lot of whinging for nothing... Edited April 13, 2016 by Slam_Jones

This will probably make me unpopular, but sounds like a lot of whinging for nothing... Four things: (1) Their statements about not having the server capacity strikes many as disingenuous. I and many many other people here deal with such problems daily. Putting large files in a place for customers to download them is bread and butter IT work. (2) Yes, whenever two customers are given different levels of access, the one with less access is a lesser citizen of the community. I can no longer participate in much of KSP, specifically many of my favorite mods which have moved on. I cannot develop my own mods (admittedly only a very very small things, but I have contributed a little over the years). Nor can I submit bug reports, or even answer question from noobs wanting help with various things. Plain and simple disenfranchisement. I would love to see a report diagramming which forum members have gone quite simply because they have not been allowed access to 1.1. (3) "When it's ready" is meaningless. It's never "done". Squad doesn't work that way. The work and work until they feel the need to release something. Major, even game-breaking bugs, are very normal and expected. The release of 1.1 on Steam lined up perfectly with predictions made months ago. I'd link to them here but that isn't allowed. They are on a schedule. Not a fixed schedule, but a very predictable one. (4) "Whinging" works. Squad bends to pressure. Screaming here, on twitter, and everywhere else actually does cause them to change course. Many bugs over the years (linux mouse bug) or planned features (the boots of +10 ISP) were only addressed after massive community reaction. For Squad to be responsive to the community, as they famously claim to be, they need community input. That means screaming criticism at them where they have made ridiculous decisions. If nobody complained Squad may well keep this course in perpetuity. Whining is screaming for something that isn't practical or possible. This is not such a situation. This is legitimate feedback from disenfranchised customers. Edited April 13, 2016 by Sandworm

I have a total of 6 games installed on my gaming rig. Only 2 of them are available on Steam so it would be of limited value for me. I'm also guilty of soon 30 years in information security so the mere idea of installing that kind of spyware on any of my computers gives me severe shivers. And had I've been able to install the pre-release (and update every 3-4 days) I wouldn't have done it anyway. I prefer to use the hours I have available to play KSP to play with my own zany contraptions and projects. Not to fiddle with a broken pre-release and much less spend my play time creating comprehensible bug reports.
