Career mode contract help

It's been a while since I've played career mode so I have some questions:

 

After I got into orbit for the first time and completed the contract for first orbit there was a "Do a flyby past Minmus" contract available from Kerbin World-Firsts Record-Keeping Society though it feels weird not to first get a rendezvous mission or a mun fly  by mission. Is there any way do get misions like these http://wiki.kerbalspaceprogram.com/wiki/List_of_story_line_contracts 

 

Ps, the contract configurator mod wont add more contracts only remove the ones you dont want.

Those contracts have certain prerequisites that have to be met first.  They also expire after a certain amount of time and are only offered once, so if you missed them, you're out of luck.  In between that though, it looks like it's still random whether you get them or just some other contracts instead.  So if you don't have the one you want, you might just have to either do something else first, decline one of the other contracts, or wait for it to expire.
