A mod to copy your legacy to new saves?

New versions of KSP (and sometimes mod) often force/tempt me to start a fresh save. But I don't get a whole lot of time to play KSP, and I never get to spend much time REALLY exploring beyond Kerbin and its moons. I love planting flags because they're a mark of where I've been and how far I've come in the game. But then they're gone with every new save. Is there a mod that lets you copy Flags from one game to another? Or does anybody have interest in creating one? I assume it would be pretty simple. I figure it would be pretty neat if I could copy all of my old flags from one save to the next.

Perhaps there's even some interest in taking things even further...

My other main hesitation for starting a new game is having to start at the beginning of Career again. I prefer Career over Sandbox because I like doing contracts, collecting Science, building up money, etc. KSP version changes (and mod list changes) generally require you to start fresh. But the beginning of a new Career can be a bit of a grind. Even once you get to the moons, it can be repetitive. I want to get on to going to other planets. Might be nice if I could carry over my Science/Funds/Rep from one game to another. Maybe even carry over Contracts (particularly the passive ones, whatever they're called) and Tech researched (or reimburse the science points and funds associated). Or let you pick and choose certain ships to carry over, along with the flags.

Basically, the idea of such a mod would be to let you start new Career games without having to start completely from scratch and losing all of your work from the previous game. It would let you make mod list changes or update KSP versions without losing everything, but at the same time you can dodge the sticky bugs that can come up when you try to just carry on with the current game.

Anyone else feel like this would be useful?

If you're itching for a quick fix and have the experience, you can change your saved games with a simple text editor. Search for and find these:

name = ResearchAndDevelopment

name = Funding

They would like this when you find them:

SCENARIO
{
    name = ResearchAndDevelopment
    scene = 7, 8, 5, 6
    sci = 16.70879
    Tech
}

SCENARIO
{
    name = Funding
    scene = 7, 8, 5, 6
    funds = 13041.917115271
}

Change the "sci" and "funds" value to what you want. Leave that decimal number alone. In this case, sci = 516.70879 will give 500 free science points.

Hate to admit it, but I do this from time to time.

It's a pretty nice mod idea :D But to make it.. That's an other thing :/

I have a few mods that may help.

For transferring over vessels and flags I have Ship Save Splicer which lets you back up vessels and load them in new saves. It's only for 1.0.5 right now (but if you're jumping between versions then you have to use the 1.0.5 version at some point) but I can get it working with 1.1 pretty quickly probably. It even supports transferring crew and their experience.

For reducing the grind and getting back to where you were I have Tree Toppler. It lets you unlock the tech tree for free, in whole or in part, even without upgrading the R&D center. If you want only specific tech nodes then there are a few restrictions with what you can unlock (the max science limit per R&D level still applies then, but it doesn't if you unlock the whole tree). I also recommend opening the debug menu with Alt-F12, then holding Alt for a few seconds until the "give funds" and "give science" buttons appear to give yourself some funds or science to help you get started. Alternatively, just increase the starting science and funds when you make the save.

Both of those mods can be acquired from my Modlet thread.
