How can I remove the VAB upgrade requirement so I can change name tags for KOS scripting?

I want to use KOS in career mode with no restrictions. I've modified the part .cfg files to make all KOS parts available from the start. However, I find that I still cannot use KOS fully because I am unable to change the name tags of parts. When I try to change a name tag, I get a message saying "The VAB requires an upgrade to assign name tags". How can I remove the VAB upgrade requirement?

I found a solution. I downloaded the KOS source code, commented-out the lines which enforce the requirement, and re-compiled KOS.dll. If there was an easier way, please let me know. Otherwise, I'm satisfied with this solution.
