Engines with NO thrust

Recommended Posts

Hi! I have been playing KSP since 0.23, and for a time, mostly during the 0.90 time, I had crashing problems, so I left for a while. Having heard of news like the upgrade to Unity5 and new releases made me want to come back to the stars. I installed mods like B9, KW Rocketry, RemoteTech, and similar stuff; which don't drastically change the game. But some of my engines seem to have no thrust. I put the correct fuel, and even with Infinite Propellant they just don't push my ship up. For example, the engine called ''Poodle'', shows 14.042500 (more or less) of fuel flow at 100% of throttle, but my speed is 0. Is it just me?; Have I done something wrong or am I missing something? Has someone the same problem as me? Anyways, thank you guys for reading!

With you saying it won't push the ship up it sounds like you are using it on the ground, is that the case?

If you check the stats it will show its isp is pretty low at ground lvl. poodle/terrier are for upperstages for orbital insertion, planetary transfers and moon landings.

Since 1.0 Isp and atmosphere change thrust and not fuel consumption (like real engines). The Poodle is a vaccuum engine, so it has terrible atmospheric Isp, and therefore very low thrust. It cannot be used as a first stage engine anymore, you'd be better using a Skipper or LV-T30 or T45 for atmospheric use.

Hm- try uninstalling all the mods and try again. If it still doesn't work, can you link a picture of your craft your trying to launch?

If you last played in .90, then we should tell you that the atmosphere and aerodynamics were completely revamped for 1.0. Now some engines work less efficiently in higher atmospheric pressures.

ASL is At Sea Level, and Vac. is in a vaccum. The Poodle has great thrust and ISP in a vaccum, but is horrible in an atmosphere.
