The Grand Minmus Rally

Recommended Posts

[with upbeat british accent]

'Greetings race fans! We are on the eve of the greatest rally race in kerbal history! The air is thick with exitement, and the smell of rocket fuel. The racers are on their marks, about to embark on the most gruleing edurance challange known to motersport. They will face a two-hundred kilometer treck across a ball of ice 47000km from Kerbin! Only the toughest will suvive, only the bravest will win!'

[/upbeat british accent]

The challange is simple:

You must design a rover which can drive from Minmus\' south pole to Minmus\' north pole and return to Kerbin in the shortest amount of time.

The rover must be launched from the KSC.

The rover must DRIVE over the surface of minmus the entire distance.

You must return to the crew safely to Kerbin.

Time is counted from launch until splashdown (or landing) on Kerbin.

In order for your time to be counted you must provide the following screenshots:

- Map view of the rover landed at the south pole with MET visible.

- Map view of the rover at the equater with MET visible.

- Map view of the rover at the north pole with MET visible.

- Screenshot of the capsule on Kerbin\'s surface with MET visible.

- Mission summary screen after ending the flight.

- Misc screenshots of the mission (optional).

Your final time will be counted by the total mission time displayed on the summary screen.

Mod parts and plugins such as mechjeb and the cart are ok. As long as it is not obviously overpowered.

Gentelmen start your engines!

My attempt:

Total Time: 4 days:13 hours:51 miniutes: 44 seconds

Mine was more of a sunday drive than a drag race, im sure others can do better. The drive itself only took about four hours in game, and i stopped quite frequently for photo ops and to let the Kerbals take a wizz (quicksave). My rover, the rocket powered MAKO III had plenty of fuel for the journey and could have easily made a circumnavigation... minmus is very senic and offers some interesting and diverse geography for driving.
