Navball Question

So I did a quick search of the forum and didn\'t really find much info about the navball. Basically I\'m wondering what the little symbols in the Navball represent. I have a good idea what the yellow circle does, but I\'d still like to know its 'official' function.

Hokay. The yellow circles show your direction of travel and it\'s opposite (PROGRADE and RETROGRADE). Notice that in the speed bar it says 'surface' or 'Orbit' and when switching tween the two, the yellow circle moves - I vaguely remember something about that being due to Orbital mode showing your direction of travel relative to the body you are orbiting, and surface is relative to the surface of the body you are orbiting.

The pink ones point towards KSP and

it\'s evil twin.

How accurate is my understanding of it, veteran rocketeers?
