spaceplane rocket hybrid, orbiting the rocket while landing the plane?

I was thinking about trying to replicate the layout of the 'SpaceShipOne' and 'WhiteKnight' hybrid

Though would there be a way to set up a mechjeb to orbit a rocket that\'s being dropped at high altitude while i manually land the spaceplane?

The only way I can think of would be to get the whole thing on a suborbital trajectory long enough that you could detach the rocket, switch vehicles, make a burn to put the rocket into a stable orbit, and then swap back before the spaceplane hits the atmosphere again.
