The (Nearly) Complete 1:1 ISS

Recommended Posts

Finally...

Hello everyone,

This is one of my first posts but I am far from a noob to KSP, having used it since v0.20(?)ish, combined with tons and tons of mods over the years.

Today, I present something that is special to me, to you. My ISS Build. This ship users tons and tons of mods, and parts made by everyone but myself, combined together to create what I feel is one of the most accurate and closest to life depictions of the ISS, both visually and functionally, assembled in KSP.

I started this project sometime (I honestly can't remember when) and have restarted it numerous times, but this one is definitely the furthest I have ever made it.

Features:

- Mobile Kanadarm2 -  RMS moves along a gantry rail along a good portion of the truss assembly, just as the real one. Arm is long enough to reach nearly every major component of the station, and grapples can be attached via KAS (See known issues as well)

- Rotating Radiators- Radiators on S1 and P1 panels rotate accordingly

- JEMRMS - RMS Arm located on the port side of the JEM, just as the real station

- Full Fledged Docking Capability - Every docking port on the real station is available to you, with specific differences between CBM's, shuttle APAS ports, and Russian MIR-style ports (Also see known issues please)

- Container Mounts - Along the truss segments and on various places (such as the nadir of the Destiny module) there are KIS container mounts, which simulate the ICC components launched by the Space Shuttle

- Numerous Research Modules - If you wish to assemble this in orbit and use it for science/career mode, get all the mods and launchers. Most of the modules can be used to gain research (not sure how useful it is, but I'm sure its something)

- Close Visual Approximation - In the name of keeping part counts as low as possible while also making a venerable replica, many visuals of the station have been very closely approximated or exactly matched, both in size and functionality.

- Comms Abound - Need to transmit data? No problem! Tons of communications relays are included in various locations, matching the real world counterpart.

Known Issues (As of Right Now):

- Kanadarm2 gantry rail sometimes spawns in the incorrect location along the truss segments. Not sure why, but it does not affect the functionality of any parts on the station, and doesn't appear to be too visually impacting, so no need to fix.

- Some of the docking ports on the ROS didn't work properly for whatever reason, so a few of them are different from each other. Make sure you check which one your going to dock with beforehand to ensure you can actually dock with it.

- Strange Kanadarm2 visuals at certain positions, but this doesn't impact functionality. I think this is a Kanadarm bug.

- Does not include HTV, ATV, etc. Basically, only the permanent modules are included. Probably not gonna change.

Required Mods:

- Community ISS

- CxAerospace

- HabTech

- Bluedog Design Bureau

- Tantares

- Contares

- Infernal Robotics and Model Rework

- Procedural Fairings and Parts

- MainSailor's PF Textures/Parts (I think? Can't remember)

- KAS and KIS (for container mounts and containers)

- Bobcat's MIR Station Parts

- TweakScale

- Kanadarm and Canadarm (Not the same mod)

- MrMeeb's Zarya Download (Will see about getting his permission so that I may upload the craft file)

- HyperEdit if you don't want to assemble in orbit

Suggested Mods and Crafts

- MechJeb

- Mike-NZ Space Shuttle

- Bobcat Soyuz-U and Progress crafts

- Kerbal Joint Reinforcement

PLEASE NOTE: THE PART COUNT ON THIS IS OVER 250 WITH NO SHIPS DOCKED. PERFORMANCE WILL VARY (AND LIKELY SUFFER)

DOWNLOAD CRAFT: (TO COME)

Glorious Screenshots

Thanks for viewing, and any criticism as to what can be redone or done better, or what you don't like at all, is always welcome.

Awesome stuff! How did you build it? I'd also suggest putting it in a RSS/RO save.

Thanks :sticktongue: I think like two weeks ago or so I decided to start building it, so I spent a day in the SPH assembling, planning, and subassembly-ing, got some proper launchers (Protons, Space Shuttles, Soyuz, etc.) and launched the parts up in order. If I had thought about it, I would've grabbed an assembly shot or two but at the time I didn't plan on sharing it. Some of the components gave me a lot of trouble, and the Canadarm in the shuttle is really finnicky, but it can be done just like the real one if you plan it all well in advance. I just had finished it today and thought I would share for all to have.

As for RSS/RO, it seems that every time I try to make an install of those two, nothing goes right for me :( I wish there was a great guide to setting up an install such as that, but I haven't found one.

Do you have any more pictures?

I suggest CKAN. If not, then I'd go through then RO modlist one at a time, starting the game after installing each mod to make sure that they're working.
