Maneuver Node Frustration (PS4)

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I'm really struggling to set-up maneuver nodes and could really use some advice.  I've run the tutorial “To the Mun, Part 1” multiple times and still can't get the hang of adjusting the apoapsis and rotating the node around the current orbit to adjust the intercept point.  The adjustments are extremely sensitive even using the precise button.  I find that if I move the prograde symbol too far and the orbit expands beyond where I want it, if I pull the symbol in to reduce the orbit, it snaps back to the original size when I let it go making it impossible to change.  Adjusting the intercept point is also causing me significant frustration; the intercept point is very sensitive and I can't seem to move the stick precisely enough to keep the it from jumping erratically.  I'm also find that about half the time I highlight the circle symbol but can't move the intercept point.  Couple other frustrations; multiple attempts to enable precision control end up switching focus to a different planet, cumbersome to get the map view adjusted to support setting up the maneuver nodes.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Right now I stuck in low orbit!

im sure we will get some good answers, but ill do my best in a half asses way. im a relative novice i guess.  your burn point for the node doesnt have to be to perfect, especially if your just testing the waters to get there.  If you place the moon at 12oclock,  i generally place my node at 4-430, no idea how efficient that is but works for me even when flying without nodes.

and im a bit confused what you mean about pulling it back, but it sounds like you are still holding the prograde simple?   if so its a simple mistake, as instead you must grab the retrograde and pull on it to cancel out that extra bit you didnt want.  youll get the hang of it!

the cumbersome map is something you will have to learn to cope with, as its the same way on PC.  Especially when you get to interplanetary stuff lol  its good to practice focused on the moon or minmus and adjusting your nodes with them way off in the background to get ready.  its one of the things i did lol

The whole map view is broken on consoles, you can't select waypoints, controls freeze, the maneuver mode sometimes doesn't work, the camera is difficult to orientate, the writing on the periapsis and apsis are tiny,  despite scaling the UI, the controls are overly sensative and the slow down control doesn't always work in map view.
