This is why we do test flights.

So I recently did a test flight of what will be my second base on Tylo. I use solid fueled boosters to deorbit the parking stage of the base. But during the test flight I discovered that the ignition for those boosters was in the wrong stage, and well, this happened. Other than this, the test flight went well.

Thanks, Captain Obvious.

Ouch.

I wish there was a better way to test interplanetary stuff besides hyperediting the things to where I want them. Like a simulation or something.

Kerbal Construction Time has a simulation feature, where anything you do won't affect the "real" career. You can also place probes at different celestial objects too if you so wish. An alternative is KRASH, but I have not used that one so I don't know how it is compared to Construction Time.

I'm not a very confident engineer and RO designs tend to be much more complicated and requiring tweaks here and there. Since I'm playing with RO, I've found simulations to be invaluable. If you want to do something crazy or make a massive bundle of rockets in Stock this will certainly help too.

I'm just amazed at lugging SRBs all the way to Tylol.

Still, Zosma's got to second base ;-0

I'm actually launching my second Laythe, second Bop, and third Vall base along with my second Tylo, as well as a crew return craft, and rockets to lift crews off of the Joolian moons. 10 launches to Jool in total.

I use RT-10 Hammer boosters. Not much additional mass, and I don't like leaving my parking stages in orbit. They're big enough to smash a space station to pieces.

A hammer isn't much, but a terrier, FL-T100 and FL-T200 will give you more dV for a tonne less.  Since you appear to have several of them, and Tylo's a long trip from Kerbin, you must be spending an awful lot of dV on haulage and need a much bigger/more complex launch vehicle in the first place.  Mind you, I don't know what sort of thrust you need for whatever it is you're doing so a terrier might not be much use.  Still, for that sort of trip I would think there are quite a few LFO engines/tanks combinations that would work better.  I also don't understand the point about leaving stages in orbit as LFO stages are no harder to de-orbit than SRBs.
