M700 Orbital Survey doesn't work

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have just launched a probe to Eve and entered a 400km circle orbit above Eve. When I try to do the orbital survey, it tells me," You must be in a polar orbit......" like this. But the same thing didn't happen with another probe(they are same) at Moho. So what should I do? Adjust the angle of my orbit? Thanks a lot!

You're not familiar with a polar orbit? It's simply an orbit with a 90 degree inclination: one that goes over both poles and has the prograde vectore facing directly north or south. Adjust your inclination to match this.

Yes, the orbit has to have an inclination of around 90 degrees, such that it passes over the poles. Hope you packed extra fuel!

For the M700 to do its (HIGHLY VAGUE) survey, it must be in a polar orbit.  This means 90^ inclination +/- about 10^ IOW, 80-100^).  It also needs an antenna to transmit its findings and about 2000 EC worth of battery to power the antenna during the transmission.  Given the need for probe core, lights, and SAS also using EC, 2500 EC worth of battery (plus solar panels or whatever to recharge it) is recommended.

I hope you know that the M700 is NOT the end of the story for finding good Ore concentrations.  It's intentionally vague and confusing so is just the beginning.  You then have to prospect with the Surface Scanner (and NBS if you have it) to really learn where the good Ore is.

Thanks a lot to everyone^_^

Another little question: does "polar orbit" mean a 90 degree inclination for all planets in KSP?

Well, it depends on the device or contract. For devices, it means 90 +/- 10. For contracts, it will be close to 90 degrees, and accuracy will depend on the number of stars in the contract.
