A small challenge

Methinks no-one here understands that Skrillex and ilk produce music of a genre that is not dubstep. That\'s up to you but it is not the deep, thoughtful, somatic music that I call dubstep - the reason OP calls this a challenge is because he\'s making people listen to whiny pop music that is wrongly named.

You misunderstood completely. Its just so weird listening to multiple 'whiny pop music' songs at once. Not because the 'whiny pop music' is bad. Also, why is Skrillex not dubstep. Post a video of what you think dubstep is.

dafuq you talkin? skrillex is dubstep, but its slowly becoming less and less hardcore. the technical term for skrillex is 'brostep' a sub genre of dubstep itself. so he is still dubstep.

I think what dubstep means to me is more important than trying to out-obscure you guys on artists, but what made ME fall in love with dubstep was artists like Distance, RSD, Youngsta, Skream (before this magnetic man business, give me those dutch flowers!) Kode9 and of course Burial. I\'d never been to an electronica gig until a stranger took me to a dubstep/jungle gig in a basement in Dublin in 2008.

Perhaps a problem here is also the way we\'re listening to the music, to me the ideal way to listen to said artists is as they\'re being manipulated well by a DJ, dancing in a room of like-minded people with a massive sound system, the feeling of your chest cavity resonating (skrillex don\'t touch 19Hz) - just a spiritual experience. Dubstep that\'s deep, creative, rhythmic and atmospheric is really much easier on the mind than the mid-range wobbly-noise mainstream business - it\'s really different music whatever you want to call it. That being said I think Downlink is pretty awesome and I consider him almost in that spectrum...

Of all the things to argue about, I never understood the point in arguing about music. Who cares? People have different tastes. Arguing whether Skrillex is dubstep or not is, dare I say, even more asinine...

You like what you like. Other people like what they like. It\'s like trying to tell a lion to consume only leaves and berries.

There\'s always a good excuse to belittle someone, eh? My point is more that there are two quite different genres bearing the same name at large. I suppose because one of them means a lot to me, seeing it in that diluted, heavily cliched form leaves a bad taste in my mouth but as I pointed out there are some artists producing music that is between the two that I enjoy. I just hope no-one misses out on dubstep\'s roots - I feel like one of those people seeing other\'s claim that today\'s pop-trash wrote Queen songs.
