Part 1 - The Start Of The Ion Program

Today was a exciting day in the NOVAE Space Center. For today their first craft, the Ion Mk1, was going to launch. The final preparations where initiated and all systems checked. One of the interns noticed the rockets staging was off, for the parachute would open up when the booster was lit. So the problem was fixed by the tech team and the intern was given a small promotion to manage the staging of each rocket NOVAE would make. Just before launch, Jebediah did some science using one of the mystery goo container`s stapled to the side of the craft to see how it responded when a craft has landed or has not took off, the goo did nothing much of interest. With everything checked and all stages were in their right positions, the countdown began...

"10...9...8...7...6...5, Rocket booster active...4...3, Booster ignited...2...1...We have liftoff!"

The control room exploded in applaud, the first kerbanned rocket in the world had been preformed, and in a flawless fashion! The Ion continued upwards at blinding speeds until running out of fuel a couple hundred meters above the space center. The rocket was going so fast the air around it was having trouble trying to get out of the way, and due to no acceleration from the booster, the rocket began to decelerate. Fast.

As the rocket penetrated the cloud layer. The control room suddenly noticed Jebediah screaming through is comm, the control room assumed he was extremely scared and wanted to go home until they realized he wasn't screaming in fear. he was actually ENJOYING the ride. The control room quickly marked him as "to monitor" list as the first and presumably only kerban to monitor for other weird quirks and personality traits that might either benefit or ruin future space mission. Right now, his enjoyment quirk might benefit in the future, for now.

as the rocket reached its peak height, Jebediah glanced out of the tiny rocket window installed on the command pod. Showing the beautiful blue orb underneath him. Using the external camera, jebediah snapped a picture that would soon be used by thousands as a screensaver on their Computers.

Soon the rocket was going down. And so at around 4000m above the space center, jebediah initiated the 2nd and last stage, the parachute. The staging worked perfectly, the parachute deployed and nearly instantly started to slow down the spacecraft, ensuring its safety. Only 1000m above the space center was when the parachute fully opened like a blossoming flower, allowing the rocket to go at a comfortable speed of 7m/s.

Before landing though, jebediah got orders to tilt the craft forward so it would allow him to get out, jump down and get back in safely without having to fall a few extra feet. But, when the craft hit the soft dirt, the booster took too much pressure and exploded. The control room were shocked, did the mission fail at that crucial moment? This theory soon disproved as jebediah spoke through, saying the main craft was fine. Only the booster and fins were destroyed in the landing sequence. Allowing another cheer form the control room to throttle through the building like a earthquake.

Soon enough, Jebediah preformed the final experiments, taking some surface samples and an EVA report (as it was risky to do it while midflight within the atmosphere.) When he returned to the craft, he did a crew report, before the pickup crew arrived.

On the very first flight of the Ion Mk1, 31 science points were racked up during the Ion`s flight. This was great for NOVAE, as it allowed advancement in technology within the labs of NOVAE. New rocket parts were devolved and new ways to receive science were discovered!
