Heat Kraken On Spacecraft Encounter??

Recommended Posts

I know its unlikely there is a fix for this, but i just want to see if i'm alone on this issue or not. I have a heavily modded install of ksp 1.1.3 and there is a seriously infuriating glitch where if i'm piloting a spacecraft of any size and come within the physics range of another one of my crafts, the game freezes for 5 seconds, the neighboring craft explodes from "overheating" and normal gameplay resumes. This is has made any sort of rendezvous with any craft, in motion or parked on the ground, impossible. I have managed to bypass the glitch by setting a course for a close encounter, leave the live game and go into the tracking centre. Then i time warp until i'm certain the two crafts are within physics ranges of each other and then resume control of the said craft where the physics of both are loaded at the same time. I am playing on x64. Also, with the latest version of KSP i have not seen any performance increase. The only thing that has increased for me is the number of mods i can run. Crafts over 100 parts still run at very low fps. I am low on ram since 7.2/8gb are being used during gameplay. My cpu is the very poor FX-6300 The list of installed mods are seen below. Thank you for your input!

I've heard of a few occasions of this happening, but couldn't dig out anything firm for you unfortunately.  It definitely sounds like a problem infuriating enough to 1 by 1 remove your 30 odd mods to figure out exactly which mod is causing the issue.  Once you've identified that removing a particular mod solves the problem you can then visit that mods page and read through to see if there are any known conflicts with any other mods in your list.  You may then even wish to identify in the mod release thread that you are having an issue and request help, although confusingly, removing a mod doesn't necessarily mean that the specific mod you removed is itself at fault, but it's as good a place and tactic as any to start on your hunt to stop your ships exploding.

Hope that helps as a starting point - Good luck with your search :)

You are better off using bisection: remove half of the mods, check if problem persists. If not, troublesome mod is among those removed. Split and test again until you are left with only one. In best case (if there is only one problematic mod) it should take four tries to find it - waaay better then going through thirty mod one by one. (IMO most likely suspects are KIS, KAS and DRE.) Prepare savegame with stock crafts on rendezvous  course for easy testing. Thinking about that, I'd start with just checking that plain stock crafts are affected at all.

And better make a copy of your KSP folder and do tests there. (On tangentially related note, thanks Squad for not burdening us with DRM).

  • 2 weeks later...

I started a fresh install with the same mods and the issue persisted. I installed Kerbal Joint Reinforcement on both the old and new install and it fixed the physics loading issues on BOTH games. The physics loading is HEAPS more stable and the heat kraken is effectively dead!!
