Flight planning

Recently, while upgrading the MCC on a new save, I noticed that the second upgrade unlocks "flight planning"  What exactly does this feature do?  I haven't noticed anything different and there's no explanation of it in the new KSPedia.

It allows you to place and use maneuver nodes while in the map mode in flight, but you'll also need to upgrade the Tracking Station to level 2 which allows you to see the patched conics predictions for your orbits.

Unlocks manoeuvre nodes. You also need the Tracking station to be at level 2 to have them though.

ok, that explains it, I must not have had to set any maneuvers before I unlocked it, or else I'd have noticed that.
