yet another mechjeb question

Recommended Posts

I am just playing again after a 3 year absence. Running KSP v1.1.3  Have downloaded Mechjeb2-2.5.8.0 via Curse. I have done some reading and searching and am aware I should be posting logs and pics etc. This is a clean game with mechjeb being my first mod and I don't have a bug as such.

Here's my first admission. I somehow unzipped KSP into the zipped KSP folder. By that I mean I now have a zipped folder ICON in user/downloads/  that is called

ksp-win-1-1-3 (1)  and I have to go in there to play the game, size is 1,533,422KB incidentally. Well I tell a lie I have a shortcut on my desktop now from inside that folder.

If I try and place the unzipped mechjeb into the gamedata file inside that zipped file it says 'compressing' before it dumps it and I get no mechjeb when i start game.

Second attempt was unzipping the game to its own folder in user/downloads. Of course now that game has none of my saved ships and career science achievements which are pretty dismal at the moment admittedly. If I do as I believe I should with this version and drag the unzipped mechjeb folder into the gamedata folder (as well as not inside the Squad folder) I get an error on start up that says:

Mechjeb2 has been installed incorrectly and will not function properly. All mechjeb2 files should be located in KSP like this

<KSP>
   GameData
     Mechjeb2
         Parts
         Plugins

which I think I kinda have except for the fact that I also have a folder called Squad in GameData and inside my Mechjeb2 folder I actually have folders called Icons,Parts,Plugins and another file called LICENSE.md

Thanks in advance
apologies as well for the general noobiness

Hey, could you please include screenshots of the facts your where saying. So a screen of you ksp folder, location, mechjeb etc would help a lot to solve your problem. First impression it seems you installed it incorrectly like KSP says.

Also, you could try to install in via CKAN. Please read the instructions well:

Greetings

I'd say you should download a fresh copy of KSP and then you should unzip it to somewhere that is not a subfolder of program files or your user files as those are generally areas that are often protected by Windows or overzealous antivirus programs.

Yep also that, when I install a game, not bought on steam or whatsoever, I usally install in C:/Program Files (86x)/Games.

Just to have it all orderly, tidy and to prevent problems.
