[IMPORTANT/Linux] Settings absent text / weird window size / -force-glcoreXX has been fixed

Recommended Posts

TL;DR

Upgrade to (new) Mesa 12 (or higher) with LLVM 3.8.1 (or higher), which advertize OpenGL 4.1 (see glxinfo) fix this completely.
Update (with 1.2.1 on different new system): Also, make sure that old libllvm (3.5.x) is purged from the system, if its not it might get used with 3.8.x+ and crashes will repeat.

The Mesa 11.1.3 w. LLVM 3.5.0 which is currently supplied in Debian Stable, supported only OpenGL3.3. Old Mesa stack led to crashes, absent text and screen size issues.

KSP Bugtracker issues that should be fixed: 9341 , 8278 (proper reason & fix), 8180 (proper reason & fix, lower resolution does not help) , 9465 (100% match), some more?

  • 2 weeks later...

Ok, almost a week has passed - and there has been approximately 30 KSP launches without any bandaid options and it was run 1-3 hour each time.

The game is running absolutely stable without any absent text or crashes, and there've been not a single black screen start or absent text.

Dear KSP devs, I urge you to close the mentioned bugs: reason "Bug is Fixed in Mesa 12". This is for AMD hardware / open driver (radeon) - but only the mesa library needs to be upgraded.
