Orbital EVA's

Recommended Posts

Hello!

I managed to download 0.16 (mac :P) and i had some problems getting poor jeb back to his beloved space craft.

Everytime i got close to the space craft it looks like even the most gentle boost makes me overshoot the rocket and strand on 300m away from it over and over again, the 1254 m/s isn\'t actually making things easier for me :s.

Are there people that are already familiar with an orbital EVA that can give me some quick tips ::).

Bob and Bill will be grateful that they don\'t need to slowly move away from their rocket with only 6 % RCS fuel left :D.

Just have to remember motion\'s relative. Even if you\'ve got a high orbital speed, your speed relative to the ship should be really low (Unless you just sent them off into space with the jet pack). Eyeballing the distance works, or holding the mouse cursor over it for distance.

Sorry if you\'ve already thought of all that, hard to tell how familiar you are with spaceflight from your first post.

I am already playing from before the time compression was added ::).

I only have problems with precise maneuvers, i\'ve putted numerous ships/satellites in orbit and on the moon :).

But i really need to become more familiar with orbital EVA\'s/precise maneuvers if i want to catch up with docking :(.

The best tip is the object that is below ( closer to planetary body surface) is the one that will go faster. If you position yourself here, you will always slowly catch up usually. Else add a bit more speed. If you get going too fast, of course will fly back. If you are ahead, get above the rocket\'s plane and let it catch up to you. Just gradual commands and drift together. Use ctrl and shift to raise/lower yourself.

My main problem with EVA\'s is that the ship ALWAYS starts spinning randomly when it shouldn\'t, and the spinning keeps getting faster and faster until its nigh on impossible to attach to the ladder -.- But yeah you only need a tiny burst and you wont stop until you counteract it-- So don\'t hold it too long, or it will take that amount of thrust to get you back to a \'stationary\' position (relevant to the ship), and even more to get back.

Cheers,

Dom :)
