[Stock][1.2] English Electric Lightning F.6

I did my best to model the iconic Cold War interceptor in pure stock, right down to the airbrake deployment.  This replica is so authentic that earlier versions would shear off the tailfin after sustained supersonic flight, just like the old Lightnings, but still manage to land safely.  Engine fires were also a problem in the protoypes, before turning down the thrust limiters.  I matched the thrust/weight ratio of the original and then tweaked the engine output (both cold power and reheat) until it performed to the F.6 specs.  Engine gimbals are locked since the Lightning did not have thrust-vectoring.

The current loadout will smash the sound barrier in level flight, and go on to tour the Pyramids.

She’s a breeze to fly, with or without SAS.  She’ll lift off into an Immelmann over the runway on cold power, or barrel off the far end in reheat through the sound barrier and then skyrocket like a homesick angel.

So grab your bone dome and mind the tyres fellas, they’re only good for a dozen landings and bloody expensive.  Squeeze the brake handle to hold her back until you’re square on the runway, ram the throttles past the friction gate into reheat, and feel that kick in the pants!

I am curious, how did you make engine fires in KSP?

This early prototype was test flown before I dialed back the thrust to levels appropriate for the historic Lightning.  Here its tail has been sheared off, and both engine fire warning lights are lit.
