How to bypass heatsheield for fuel transfer

Recommended Posts

I am playing in career moderate mode. This mean that fuel transfer follows crossfeed rules. The problem is a heat shield doesn't have crossfeed. This cause problems refueling ships at stations, because the fuel tank is below the heatshield. It has been suggested that I simply connect a fuel line to the heatshield, this only works if you connect two (one from each direction). This is not easily done. I am looking for a more reliable way to connect the fuel lines. Please help!

Don't suggest turning off the crossfeed rule as that makes me feel like I'm cheating. Not logical but the way it is.

Thanks

Well usually you would have the shield underneath everything meaning your fuel tanks would be connected. Only way i think:

Have a structural pylon or girder stick out of your vessel slightly, and add a fuel line from 1 tank to the girder, and from the girder to the next tank. The girder can be any size - even an OscarB tank

Mount a docking port on the side of the craft near the tanks to avoid this. There should really be no issue doing this, heatshields should allow crossfeed if enabled for the part, one of the reasons I turned that option off.

thanks @regex the docking port on the side is good but it can be awkward to dock sideway. for now I'm just building without heat shields after the initial landing. That will be a problem when I go interplanetary.

i was hoping someone have a more elegant solution.

Don't enable the option or mod the parts using ModuleManager. tbh not being able to transfer fuel through the heatshield is kind of silly.
