Contract For New Station

I have a contract to put a new station in solar orbit.  I had an interplanetary tug in orbit before the contract showed up.  If I attach the completed station to the tug to put it in a solar orbit will the contract complete?

No. When you dock two vessels, it takes the oldest date and applies it to the whole vessel.

Once you're in the correct region for the contract you should just be able to un-dock the older ship and the contract will complete. You can then re-dock and be on your way.

I just had to rescue a Mun station who's probe core exploded during ascent and the contract completed just fine after I undocked the rescue ship in Munar orbit.
