1.2.x parts in 1.1.x

One of the visual mods that I like to have doesn't work with 1.2.x, KVV in this case. Since one of the rules of the mod dev section is "Don't poke the bears", and I know it is being worked on, I'm chasing the obvious work around. Which brings up this question, will 1.2.x parts load and display correctly in the VAB/SPH? I don't care if they don't work after I push the launch button... mmm, launch button :O~~~

Before I invest too much time on it though, has anybody tried? and succeed or failed?

The stock 1.2 new part -- I'm guessing no. Because that's the mini-sciene container, which (AFAIK) required some new code.

But for mod parts, sure they will. You may need to make a few little edits to remove some lines from the .cfg file for behaviors that don't exist in 1.1.

Most parts of 1.2 will DISPLAY correctly in 1.1.x VAB (providing you copy 1.2's GameData/Squad/Parts to your 1.1.x directory).

That's about as far as you can hope to go. Lots of them got new MODULE entries, which are not present in 1.1 and will be simply ignored by the game, meaning the parts will serve little function beyond structural - for example, most antennas will not work, no RCS will work, wheels will not work, and so on. Animated parts will very likely display incorrectly in their animated (extended, deployed etc) state. That may extend to wheels which "animate" in their default state.

Okay, so I'm cutting new ground here. Dang.

On trying it, it looks like 1.13 doesn't like some of 1.2 parts, at least judging by the fact that it stalls on launch: fairings, heat shields, maybe others.

It looks like I will have hack up the whole set of parts to get it work. Fun times
