You follow the same procedure to calculate return delta-V, applying aerobraking where applicable (like on Kerbin reentry).

It doesn't entirely help with cross-trips, e.g. Moho-Jool will not be the same as Moho-Kerbin+Kerbin-Jool.

It's also for optimal transfers at optimal transfer windows. The delta-V may be much higher with transfers at unoptimal time/angle.
