Vertical snap in VAB

I want to align part so that new one(s) would be centred right in the middle of vertical axis of the root part:

Right now I can only eyeball it. In previous KSP versions it was possible to enable VAB_ANGLE_SNAP_INCLUDE_VERTICAL parameter in settings.cfg and that would enable vertical snap - now I tried it and it does not work for me. Is it possible to do something like with in current unmoded version?

You can use the move tool with angle snap turned on to move the part up and down in increments; one of those increments is generally at the vertical center of the part. It's not a very good method, but it's the only one I've found.

And toggle to absolute mode instead of local with [F]. With snap turned on in absolute mode it should be pretty easy to find the middle without too many problems.

If you're not adverse to using mods I'd suggest Editor Extensions. Vertical and horizontal snap and many many more.
