Maneuver Nodes in Career?

I'm working my way through a career game in stock 1.2.2 KSP.  

What R&D branch do I need to work on to get the ability to place maneuver nodes and use them?

Or you could upgrade the tracking station and the mission control (I think, but you can see in game)

 

Edit: Yes, those are the correct buildings to upgrade. Also, the wiki has a lot of info on these sorts of things.

What Benjamin Kerman said, you need both tracking station (for visible patched conics) and mission control (for flight planing) upgraded to lvl2.

Thanks for the help.  In my head I was looking for something that would go on board, like a module or something, and trying to figure out how to spend my science wisely to get there.   I was not even aware that you could upgrade the different buildings.

Yeah, the building upgrades unlock all kinds of new features such as larger rockets, more contracts, and more science!
