no stage recovery in un-moded game

I haven't played for over a year and a half, but the game installed smoothly on my new gamer.  However, in career mode, I can't view separated stages, or recover them in the tracking station.  I was able to do so before.

I have never installed any mods.

I'm not sure if it is this but, by default, the debris are hidden in the map view, you have to select them in the upper menu to make them appear.
