Why Place Anywhere RCS ports won't work on closed service bays?

I've just noticed that the Place Anywhere RCS ports radially attached to the 2,5 Service Bay don't work when the bay is closed. No matter where you attach it, inside or outside and if you used angle snap or not. Is there a reason for this behaviour?

Simply put yes, the reason is that the stock occlusion checks are both 'approximate' and 'greedy' -- if something has even the possibility of being shielded, it is marked as such, whether it actually looks visibly shielded, or should logically be shielded.

There are quite a few other threads regarding these problems as they relate to engines, solar panels, antennas, and any other part/module that doesn't work when shielded.

I see, the thing is, the other RCS ports do work normally

They have different shaped colliders that likely protrude further from the occlusion check area, causing them to be disregarded.  That is the 'approximate' bit I was referring to.

Don't forget landing gear... on my mk3 cargoplanes, I often have to open the cargobay briefly to get the nose gear to deploy.

As for the RCS ports, if you use the offset tool to move them farther away from the interior, they may start working.
