Hmm. Downloading ships sounds like you are getting them off of spacedock or some such.

That correct?

To implement said ships into your game, you need to open up the folder where KSP is kept. Go to saves/mysandboxmode/ships/ and place it in the correct assembly building. Launch the game, and it should be there.

I don't play off of steam, so I don't know where exactly steam puts thefiles, but one you do, that is the path.

Partially, this depends on your OS. Are you using Windows?

When you download a file from the internet, it usually gets stored into your Downloads directory. You use the File Manager screen to find it.

You need to move these downloaded ships into either your VAB or SPH directory, inside your game directory. Only you know where your game directory is. It is wherever you put it when you bought the game.

Inside your game directory is a directory called "saves". Inside that are a bunch of directories named by you, when you start a new game. Inside those directories is a "Ships" directory, and inside Ships are two directories "VAB", and "SPH"". Beyond that, it is just a matter of understanding where things are stored by your OS on your disk.

If you have Steam you can (at least on Windows) get there if you right click on the KSP Library entry, pick Properties, go to the Local Files tab, and click Browse Local Files.  The aforementioned "saves" folder will be in there.

Though after that I suggest making a shortcut because if you play with any regularity you will be going there often!  :)
