Looking for modelers and programmers for ambitious stargate projects

Recommended Posts

So I've decided to officially put it out there that I am looking for people to help me with this set of projects.

This is my first project and i have zero experience in modelling and programming. I have a working knowledge of both, maybe programming moreso but I really have my heart set on this project and want to get it out there for everyone else to enjoy. If you have experience and would like to see this project come to fruition then please feel free to let me know! :)

First priority is Destiny however secondary to this will be Destiny's Shuttle, Daedlus + X302's, and as a side project + hobby the puddlejumper from sg-atlantis. If these projects are completed then I 'may' look into doing more ships from the stargate series, depending on interest and support.

Here is a link to my first thread and it details my idea's and what i've learnt so far modelling so feel free to take a good look and see what i plan to do. Also if you don't have experience but do have an idea, this is the place to put it out there :)

Thanks and I hope to see more of you here soon :)

I'd love to help you out! I'm a "beginner" modeller and an advanced programmer that's just starting to take off, I have a little bit of experience with modelling as I've just started my own project a few days ago. Unfortunetaly I've never heard of the stargate series nor do I have any idea what that is :P. If you send me some information about it I'm sure I'll be able to help :)!

Hope to see more of you soon ;).

Ok, so what would you like me to do? If you want me to model something you will have to send me a reference picture or model.

Ill bring up the google sketch up model im using for reference and get a few screenshots or i can try and get the link for the model so you can download it yourself to look at. Do you use google sketchup? If you could start by doing the central body. It's 430am and i really should be getting to sleep now. Tomorrow ill draw up a VERY rough idea of the main parts and how the ship will be divided into parts. If you read my other post you will know i still don't quite have the ins and outs worked out for KSP itself, im just getting the parts together now so if you have any input then do speak up.

[Edit] Here's links for the models: http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=bcc2b679389c13fffae947e64ee50374&prevstart=0

This is my 302 making log. I will be doing a .cfg and a .CRAFT for the X302

Parts list:

command pod/cockpit:modeling :(

fuel tank(s)?:starting

rocket engine:modeled starting .cfg

jet engines:modeled

wings:modeled

I'm Back

although A long way to go I have a plan for how people will fly it

at t+0 they power up the jet engines and precede to 15000 meters and then power up the rocket engine and kill the jet engines and then you are away!

I can be overpowered if you like as it is meant to be a fighter however it needs to be agile in both space and in atmosphere as in the series it's intended use is as atmospheric/spacial combat :) Im going to finish off the rear turret and make a start on destiny's main body now as i need to do the main body before i can get the scale of the command centre right, however i don't think blender deals well with very large objects so i may have to do it on google sketchup then tidy it up with blender.... Will let you know how it goes. It would be good to see what you have got so far if you can post some screenshots or email them to me?

Can you PM me your email address. If i can email you a .dae file with a scale test model could you export it into a placeable part ingame so i can see if the scale fits? I want to get the size right before i start modelling the parts, then have to down or up scale each part individually. If i can get scale right now it makes things easier to move forward. Its ready textured with something random i just grabbed, it dont really matter i just need to see its size ingame.

ah sorry ;P

Its okay, feel free to help out. Im going into hospital tomorrow so im not doing much today/tomorrow/maybe the next day but ill look at the body as soon as i get the chance :) In the mean time use your body as a template to add the nose/engines if you have spare time. I've been working on the turrets mostly and planning on starting the command centre aswell :)

Okay, I know your working on the main body too, but here's a quick copy I made, you can use the best one. ;)

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/53132286/Destiny.dae

P.S. Tell me if there's anything you want me to change/redo.

Okay i had a look and it looks good but the main body/nose needs to be a little bit more stretched. I increased Z to 16m and it looks better but the ship will be 1 body 2 wings 1 nose etc and from the NOSE to the tip of the wings there is only a very very slight taper then when you hit the wings it starts curving out, but the other dimensions look good. Just dont know whether that will exactly fit into the game... Do either of you know how to increase view distance in blender? its bugging me trying to work on a rough 40m x 80m x 10m ship but only being able to see about 20mx20mx20m at a time -_-

now that I think about it, should I take the original sketchup model and convert it into a .dae and then strip it down to just the body?

I don't think I can do that, the nose its self has over 300 polygons :/

Well, it'll be fun to try ;)

Are ye forgetting the Goa'uld ships from stargate, like the Death Gliders, Al'kesh, and Hatak?

This would assume you're talking about non-Stargate Universe Stargate. Which, is complete and utter crap. :D Looking forward to seeing any updates on Destiny though, would be fun to fly around in.

I will be doing sg-1/sg-atlantis crafts fully later but for now one of us is working on an x302 and me and parker are working on destiny, then ill be working on the destiny shuttle, then probably daedlus... Lets just see how destiny goes :)
