FIRST KERBAL MADE OBJECT TOUCHES THE HEAVENS

Today the newly formed Kerbal Space Agency accomplished their first major victory. After multiple failures and explosions, the first successful flight of their A1 sounding rocket occurred.

The rocket, built using technology from the Kerbal Army's K-10 short range missile. The solid rocket motor is a reliable and simple rocket, but cannot be turned off once it is ignited. Early tests demonstrated the volatility and hazard of this design, with many explosions and accidents, that damaged the launch pad. But the test today was a complete success. The A1 became the first object to escape the atmosphere, reaching a maximum height of 285 km. Images from the mission made headlines around the world.

Unfortunately, the rocket was not designed to survive the stresses of reentry, and it disintegrated in the atmosphere on the way down. Based on the success of the mission, the KSA was granted additional funds, and further experiments were planned.
