Spacecraft shaking wildly upon docking

Recommended Posts

So I decided to make a huge ship in the orbit with all the good stuff(landers, ore tanks, lot of fuel, 150ish crew capacity and some other bits and pieces) and visit different stock celestial bodies using it. All I have left to do is dock the final booster stage to it's end. The moment I dock the booster to the ship it starts shaking wildly. I have tried disabling RCS and SAS and then dock but nothing seems to work. I have got autostrut enabled on most parts(I don't know if this is the problem just writing it to provide more info). Have played the game for a long time but haven't encountered such a problem that a few F5s and F9s can't fix.

Welcome to the forums, distant relative of mine.

Yes, autostruts is the problem -- especially if you leave them set to the default autostrut settings. Changing the autostruts to all be "grandparent" autostruts can make the shaking go away.

If you use "heaviest part" autostruts, then try to limit yourself to a maximum of about five of them -- on both vessels that are getting docked together.

When you dock, the autostruts analyze the newly combined vessel. If the heaviest or root part is now a different part, and that is the autostrut setting you have enabled, then the autostruts try to move.

Moving an autostrut is a very forceful process.

That worked. Thanks.
