Manoeuver I don't get...

Hi folks, it's been a long time.

I was doing my usual orbital mechanics presentation at my local astronomy club and I usually comment a Hazardous vid which show a various number of maneuvers. But in that video (see blow) at 3min10s, there is one maneuver I don't understand.

It seems so flawed that I can't fathom how a so able Kerbal player can do a capture like that.

I always say myself when something seems wrong, the most probable explanation is that I miss some information. But since years I comment this video I don't get it.

At 3m10, why Hazardous is doing a capture so far from Tylo surface ? It seems such a loss of fuel !

Maybe the simpler answer is the correct one: because he don't need to make it any closer. The maneuver may not be the most fuel efficient but he have the fuel to pull it off.

Yeah, he publicly admitted that he cheated on the Tylo single tank video.

Ok, I just saw the whole story. Sad.

But no matter, I think as he says, he tested it a lot and could not do the while mission by a small margin. He cheated.

BUT, I don't think he didn't do this capture efficiently. Is the 3m10s maneuver efficient or not and why ?

 Yeah, it seems a bit wasteful to me, but not terribly so. I would've adjusted the intercept to get a lower Pe. Combining the burns would've allowed him to add the DV vector- style instead of algebraically, saving about 250 m/sec.
