A new take on the infamous docking bug

Recommended Posts

I'm currently experiencing the well known and hated docking glitch. All ports, no matter what type or on what craft, are locked as soon as I click launch. I have gone into persistent.sfs and searched, but they always readout as having "state=ready". Battery and orientation are not the problem, as it occurs even if launched as part of a vessel consisting of the port and a probe.

What do you mean by "locked"? The docking bug I remember from several versions ago was one you typically wouldn't encounter until you were in space after docking, when you would find that you couldn't undock from your space station or such. It didn't say "locked" in the right click menu, but it just wouldn't let go.

Are you experiencing this on the ground? Screenshots might help us to identify what's going on.

I've included all three ports available at the current stage in my career game. I play a heavily moderated game, so I have no doubt theres a conflict happening. However I have removed all the docking mods I could find on ckan, and it still persists. Testing has shown that it might be an animation glitch, since the status changes when I extend the "bumper", an addition to docking ports done by Ven's Stock Parts Revamp. I'm going to uninstall that mod and the one that adds the third docking port you see on screen momentarily and will return with news of how that affects things.

So the issue is in fact with Ven's Stock Parts Revamp. However, I really enjoy this mod and I'd sooner play without docking than without this mod. Is there a way to remove the ven's version of the docking ports while keeping the stock ones?

I don't have that particular mod installed currently, but I can make an educated guess based on working with other mods on how to do that. Go into the Gamedata folder in you KSP directory and find Ven's Stock Parts Revamp. Go into that and search "docking port" or just "Docking". Then remove whatever comes up by either deleting it, or perhaps more safely, cutting and pasting it outside the KSP directory so you can put it back if it has unforeseen effects.

I tried that earlier today, and all that happened was the docking ports no longer showing up as a part in the VAB
