Well to increase performance you increase the thrust or the specific impluse.

Isp is partly controlled by the change in pressure of the exhaust, so some type of self enlarging engine bell would allow for more performance. You need to have the exhaust pressure equal to the outside pressure, or flow seperation happens and your rockets go boom.

Not sure if you are talking about this.

Not sure bro. Most engines are already optimized with nice bells.
