Hello !

Just a simple question to everyone who make mechanic things in ksp, with bearing, etc...

I know how to make folding legs in THEORY, but i'm new to this, so it takes me a long time, so i just want to know if what i want to make actualy work, and if you can give me tips or advices, that's even better !

So here is a gif of what i'd like to do:

I've only dabbled with creating stock hinges, so mine where probably not well made, but my conclusions were; results in high part count and not 100% reliable. If you want something to move, Install InfernalRobotics (which has it's own querks, but mostly gets the job done).

Actually....looking (squinting) at that gif, it looks like the wing parts are clipping through the main tank....which would suggest that that's being done with IR rather than a stock hinge.
If you are going to make a leg with stock hinges, then what I do know is that the leg has to have a docking port that it will re-attach to the main craft with when deployed. Otherwise it won't be strong enough and you'll get all kinda issues if you try to time warp.

One of the most popular designs for stock hinges uses linear-7 RCS ports held in a cage of thermometers. Getting them to work as as much an art as a science, but you'll start to get a feel for it soon. The legs and rotating part of the hinge need to be able to separate from the main rocket, either with decouplers or docking ports, then reconnect with a docking port. Aligning the connection docking ports will be made much easier if the root of the landing leg ships is at their center of rotation. Making that work is easier with the Editor Extensions Redux mod. I also recommend WASD Editor Cam to let you see the fiddly little parts easily.
