Don't use the ones provided mangled by Unity.  Use the ones provided by SP (direct from the export folder), and overwrite the ones Unity mangled :)   (just make sure the file-names match up with what you have in the patches).

(I almost never let Unity touch my textures anymore; export the model without textures on it, and assign the textures with the TU patches)
