Are animations required to see the nozzle gimbal?

Maybe not you can make parts of a engine move with gimbal but to set it for just 2 directions might have to do some digging around what engine are you talking about would help.

Thats close to what I said but that might not get all the want to move as the thrust transform is set to the bell so gimbal moves it if they want more to move they need to name it something else which one would have to see the model and what the want to move

Animations are -not- required for a gimbal to 'rotate'.

Create your engine model with transforms in the proper positions and orientations, and the stock 'ModuleGimbal' will dynamically rotate the gimbal according to the inputs.  Examine some of the other engine models and see how they have set up their transforms (naming, orientation); compare this to their config files to see what transforms are referenced in the specific part-modules, and fill out your part config accordingly.

I Want it to move in all directions like the stock engines.
