made it to duna the first time, eclips question

Recommended Posts

made it to duna for the first time and noticed that ike casts a shadow on duna's surface, thinking that would make great screenshot potention i put a satelite in orbit around duna beetween the two, but it turns out the shadow is only visible on the map screen :(

is their a way to see it from the normal view?

It is but a mod is required. IIRC, scatterer makes ecplises visible from the surface of a planet:

Recently, I captured a solar eclipse on Kerbin:

excuse me for my inability to get my thoughts across lol.

i meant looking down on the surface of duna from orbit while the shadow of the planet is being cast on the surface. from the map screen i can see the big black shadow, but when i zoom in to my ship it dissapears.

didnt knwo about seeing the ecclipse like that though, thanks for sharing, i have something to set up now. lol

I see. Like this?

I'm still pretty sure that it requires scatterer and if you want the shadow to be displayed pitch black like the one in my screenshot, you will also need a high orbit (at least 140km above Duna). The way the shadow is casted on the surface depends on your distance from the planet, so if you come closer, you will still recognize that it's getting darker around you (and solar panels stop working), but the shadow is no longer pitch black:

On the left side, the sunlight still reaches the surface of Duna, on right side, the sun is already blocked by Ike.

Not quiet sure though if this is configurable.

mine is exactly like in your screenshot, i guess i expected the shadow to be more visible when closer to the surface like in your second image.
