Windows 10 Antivirus CPU Spike

Recommended Posts

Yesterday my Windows 10 PC did an update and  today I've noticed the Windows Antimalware Service Executable is bogging down KSP.  Turning off real time protection and the Antimalware Service Executable drops to 0% and KSP is back to being responsive. There is no third party AV on this computer, just the built in Microsoft AV.

1) Starting a new game going into the game difficulty settings menus. The game slows to a crawl and is basically unusable at the same time the Antimalware Service Executable runs about 18% CPU.

2) I see a similar spike on scene changes like going into the VAB and back to the Space Center.

Windows 10 Pro, 1809, OS Build 17763.253

Antimalware Client Version: 4.18.1812.3
Engine Version: 1.1.15500.2
Antivirus Version: 1.283.3579.0
Antispyware Version: 1.283.3579.0

Windows updates, then a windows component causing problems. Coincidence?

As you have identified that it is this "anti-malware" thing that is hogging resources, perhaps you should take it up with the company responsible for that particular software?
