KSP crash on start

Recommended Posts

HI,

My son's not played KSP for a little while, and now it won't start up.

It goes through the loading screen (progress bar and pictures) and then reports:

Kerbal Space Program - Unity 2017.1.3p1
Has encountered and error and must close.

I have run the local validation which claims it's OK.

I have deinstalled and reinstalled but no luck.

I'm totally no expert on steam or KSP so am a bit stuck

Anyone help?

Crash log is here:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1eQ-oS-NeCIrHaLLReH8mkKzHaylCMGu1/view?usp=sharing

The PC is running Win10 and is a Lenovo G50, with an i5 4210U processor  with 8GB of RAM.

Thanks

Kev.

Welcome to the forum :)

A crash caused by mono.dll usually indicated one or more outdated mod. I guess, KSP got an update since you or your son played the last time and now, the mod(s) became incompatible. Uninstalling the game through steam doesn't affect mods so they are still there. For a clean reinstall, uninstall KSP through steam and delete the remaining files manually (you may want to create a backup of the savegame first). Then, install the game again and it should launch just fine again :)

Could do with some help on "deleting the rest of the files manually"....

By default, steam installes the game to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common", there should be a folder called "Kerbal Space Program" (this folder contains the "save" directoy with all of your savegames). After creating a backup of the savegame, you can delete the whole "Kerbal Space Program" folder.
