Strange rift on gilly

Hey so I'm playing 1.6, and I found a strange geographic feature: a rift on gilly. Jebediah died when he tried to enter it. Does anyone know what this is!?

It's a bug/issue during planet creation. Many planets and moons have these "rift" or "hole" at the poles but I have to admit, your rift seem to be bigger then usual. Try to avoid falling into it and you should be fine

It's been there for a while, I think I encountered it in either 1.3.1 or 1.4.5 and saw it in a KSP YouTube video from many versions before... It's cool to find and explore. I did several tests on it (flag planting teleportation, length measurement, etc.) and it was pretty interesting! Just don't (or do, but save!) fall in!

Also, the sun is a deadly lazer
