Great Success! but a few remaining questions...

I'm a little new to the more advanced aspects of KSP but at the same time I just LOVE exploring a RSS and hope they include one in KSP2.  I was thrilled to get RSS installed by following these instructions.  (I got everything working except Visual Enhancements but I'll try that next after backing things up...)

Here is my main question at this point - I went ahead and installed RO along with RSS and I see that the design and functioning of the craft is much more detailed.  For instance, I took someone's Gemini/Titan for a ride and it was a bit more complex to fly then just pressing the space bar every time a stage runs out of fuel.  Right now I'm just working on learning orbit/ rendezvous and docking skills and would prefer to run RSS without too much more Realism.  

Is it possible to run RSS WITHOUT RO for now or would that just make it harder to get into orbit?

If you remove RO you should get SMURFF instead!
