I'm pretty new, but I'm starting to get familiar with the Kraken. Can anyone help me with this consistent attack?

Recommended Posts

Basically I built this Mun Lander,  was stable on the trip over but I noticed some Kraken evidence today when I couldn't find my antenna on it. It had clipped into the ship. This lander has been sitting on my Munar Station for an in-game week or two while I did other things and today I figured it was time to get some of these long-term kerbalnauts home. Unfortunately, this happens:

I assume something must be clipping, but I don't know if this situation is salvageable or if I should just use it to "nuke the mun," as they say, and send another ship for my kerbals. Any suggestions, tips or help would be much appreciated.

Do a rescue mission. also try quickloading your latest save. Don't try to destroy your ship. If it still have fuel tanks with fuel, you can dock your rescue mission to it and get the fuel to go home since you don't need it anyway. PS i did not watch the vid so I am just giving you advice from your words. I have a broken duna space station the broke due to a unknown Kraken attack a uncontrollable docking. It is there still and I mainly use it for it's two still-there ore converters and tanks.

I just watched your video. this is a common problem. Next time try adding more supports. From your vid, I saw that your thing didn't explode like it would. If it becomes worse, get your kerbals back to the station using EVA and get a rescue mission. If you can't sent a rescue mission, then you could try to get the thing home. Aim directly for the middle of Kerbin so that you only need to fire your engine once. I never did this before, but I think it should work.

Yeah I tried that on a different ship that i made after this one. My design was flawed, very poorly placed hydraulic arm as a support, and no amount of struts keep it stable enough to survive the time warp. I'm also still early in my career so perhaps I just haven't unlocked strong enough items yet.

Figured I would check with the community for any creative solutions, mods or otherwise, that can help with this particular lander so I don't have to scrap it.

If your are really stuck you can use the cheat menu:

Spoiler

control + alt + fn12

  1. Enable advanced tweakables in the main menu settings.
  2. Add autostruts to all those wobbly tanks while it’s still docked, I suggest to grandparent part.
  3. If it starts twitching again, autostrut anything attached to those tanks to the root part.
  4. Brief stints at x5 time warp can often cause wobbly parts to snap back to their correct positions and stop the wobble long enough to add more autostruts.

That, plus I would add autostrut to grandparent to all parts. If there is a robotic part hidden in there somewhere then I suggest to lock it. (And, yes, autostruts can keep robotic parts from working.)

In addition I would disable SAS until you selected "control from here" from the command pod. If the SAS reference point (the "control from here" point) is on one side of a craft and all the reaction wheels are at the other and both are connected with "bendy" parts, then SAS will actively increase any bending that happens by moving the reaction wheels in the "wrong" direction. You detach from the station, so it might be that docking port that was attached to the station was automatically set as the reference point.

P.S. And for the future: add struts between all those tanks. ;)
