when did you start drinking?

Somewhere in my teenage age years on special occasion.

When I hit 18 ( UK legal drinking age ) I was suddenly not interested in it

And I can only drink spirits

Never have, don't really desire to. I mean I tried sips when I lived in Italy and I hated it...so its not really that I'm morally against it - some people don't like grape juice (I also happen to hate grape juice), I just happen to not like alcohol.

Nobody drinks for because they like the taste! We drink so we can get through the damn day!

*ahem* Now that I'm done referencing things...7? Maybe? Not sure when my parents gave me wine with special occasion sorts of dinners. Very young. They were smart about that; got me hooked on the good stuff, so I can't really afford to get super-drunk, because the taste of cheap liquor is absolutely revolting and vile to me. Meaning on the rare occasion I do drink, it's not the watered-down urinary-excretions we North Americans try to pass-off as beer under labels like "Coors" and "Kokanee". *shudder*

I drank a little here and there through my late teens. Quit at 18, then picked back up a little in my early twenties. I am now 27 and never drink. Even a little bit gives me a bad stomach ache, so I just don't do it.

Started drinking when I was a freshmen in college (19) right after moving out. My parent's wouldn't have allowed it. Same with weed. Then I quit both about two years later.

No they wheren't.

My parents believe/believed even then I was mature, so gifted me the oppertunity to learn through experiances.

Like I said previously, I have done some incredibly fun, interesting, an also stupid things while drinking.

At least am now mature enought to acknowledge that, some of things I done where great/bad/illegal.

In hindsight, I am glad my parents let me start drinking early, I enjoy the taste of alcohol, so only drink socially or to enjoy the taste, not to forget or drown my sorrows.

When I drink, I drink in moderation, an can stop myself at any time.

I wish some of my friends or other Irish forum members had the same level of self control.

Yeah I'm the same but my friends cannot and when we go to the pub for one drink, my friends end up going full out and spend a lot of money to get absolutely smashed while I'm sat there sipping my larger

Christmas only as im only 15 too. Which will only be a small west coast bottle. But its rare I bother asking.

I was 16. I drank with friends. I drank a lot back then. Dropped out of college eventually when I was partying 6 days a week.

Joined the Air Force and vowed to quit partying, and only drank a set limit at occasions that required drinking. There ARE a few of those when you are in the military, much like people mentioning weddings toasts and such.

Now I drink maybe a beer or two every few days. I'm 31. I brew my own beer. About 4 cases a month.

There is nothing wrong with drinking in moderation. Drinking in excess can have bad effects on your life.
