KSP fresh install crash

Recommended Posts

Basically title, KSP was working with mods fine then something happened and now it wont run even in vanilla with a fresh install.

Steps so far-

Copy save out to desktop

Uninstall KSP

Delete folder

Delete regedit entry

Install KSP

Verify files

This worked and ran well the first time, Due to previous problems I then verified the game cache (because for some reason after each loading of the program at least one file is corrupted or wrong) and 2 files needed to be validated. I then tried to rerun KSP to make sure it wasn't a fluke and it got to the end of the loading screen and crashed the computer when the bar was at 100%. I believe the error was DPC_watchdog_failure or driver failure? This has happened consistently since, and I still need to verify 1 file each time after it runs.

My specs are below and ksp version

Kerbal Space Program - 1.9.1.2788 (WindowsPlayer x64) en-us

OS: Windows 10  (10.0.0) 64bit
CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7700HQ CPU @ 2.80GHz (8)
RAM: 8080
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti (4018MB)
SM: 50 (Direct3D 11.0 [level 11.1])

If it affects things my OS is windows 10 education edition.

Here are the logs from the most recent attempt to run :

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1WvNmZy1IA606P8ySBo3cVStlFkqeXhSm?usp=sharing

Thanks, any help would be great, I previously ran with Spectra and scatterer and other mods until Kerbal Engineer needed to be updated and it then crashed and reverting didn't solve the issue.

Hi there,

At first glance, you only have 8GB of RAM on your machine which seems a little low to run windows and KSP but should be fine, with minimal mods.

No useful information in the logs, can you see if there's a unity crash dump please?

If it's a unity crash, normally it will try to generate a crash dump when it's closing, so it's important that you let it close... "naturally" (i.e. if a unity window pops up with a kerbal icon and an exclamation/warning icon, let it do it's thing).

You can find the crash dumps in

C:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Local\CrashDumps
Just replace <your username> with whatever your username is on your machine.

If there are any crash dumps in there labelled KSP_x64.exe.####.dmp or similar, post a link to it here and I'll run it through a debugger to see if anything crops up.

If however, your machine is completely rebooting when KSP loads, that would point to a more serious issue - most likely drivers need updating, although it could be a hardware problem.

I believe DPC Watchdog Violation is a hardware error that occurs when an SSD driver is incompatible with windows 10, so you may want to start there.

This is going to be really really stupid, but I managed to fix it by just updating the drivers....

All my mods work perfectly now and have had no crashes in the times I've played on 1.9.1 even with multiple runs (and now 46 mods). (I still have to verify the game cache each time but I can live with that)

I thought because it didn't prompt me to update anything and device manager said everything was fine it would be ok... turns out I was wrong, just using driver scanner fixed it.
